As your understanding of TMW deepens, it will continue to guide you into greater health and wellbeing for years to come.
You, along with the thousands of people who practise TMW every week, can experience the immediate benefits to the wellbeing of your body, mind and emotional state, and gain a toolkit for life.
The benefits of TMW
Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing will gently flex, strengthen and ease your muscles, joints and connecting tissues. The movements will help to realign your body bringing greater balance, posture, coordination and stability.
Focusing on the flowing movements brings you back into the moment and releases your mind from stress and anxiety, allowing a calmer and more spacious state of mind to arise.
With this embodied mindfulness, both physical and mental tension is released and your breath is free to deepen and flow naturally – allowing you to experience yourself as centred, grounded and balanced.
Connecting your mind and body in movement is energising – bringing a new feeling of aliveness, self-confidence and self-worth.
Gradually, with a new focus of self-care and kindness, your relationship to yourself and the world around you changes. Before you know it, you’ll find these benefits transfer into your whole life.

Our Story
Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing was created by internationally renowned Tai Chi Master, Richard Farmer, who had the vision of delivering the profound benefits of Tai Chi and meditation in an easy-to-learn, yet highly effective programme – one that could be taken up by anyone at any stage of life or health.
Dr David Quinn, consultant clinical and neuro-psychologist and long-time student of Richard’s, saw the potential. If NHS employees could share TMW with groups, the knock-on effect through patient self-care could help take some strain off an overly stretched NHS.
In 2009, Dr Quinn sourced NHS funding for a TMW pilot programme within the Acquired Head Injury Unit. These patients had a wide range of symptoms representative of many long-term health conditions. The results were astounding. In just 8 weeks, TMW showed that it could address physical, psychological and emotional issues, as well as empower people to continue their own self-care safely and enthusiastically.
How is TMW different?
Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing is for the whole of you, for the whole of your life. With these gentle, flowing, graceful movements, you can begin at your own level of fitness, mobility and energy – slowly building your strength, flexibility and vitality for life.
TMW doesn’t focus on ‘fixing’ you or your particular physical, mental or emotional difficulties. Instead, the movements allow you to experience yourself as a relaxed, calm and balanced person. This is where rebalancing, rejuvenation and healing can take place.

Success stories
“TMW offers me a way back into gentle physical movement which is achievable for managing my Long Covid symptoms. It helps me to soothe my disregulated autonomic nervous system and the more familiar I become with the movements, the more I am in the present moment and a calming state of being. Learning how to move with my natural breathing rhythm gives another element of self-awareness and a way of helping my own recovery.”
“When I lost my balance function, TMW helped me find a way to gain some control over my body. I learned, and still continue to learn, to listen to my body to help compensate for the signals I no longer get from the balance system in my ears. I would like to be able to offer it to the patients I see at work who have balance difficulties.”
“We have all needed conventional medicine to some degree… but I was looking for something away from illness and into health. TMW makes other treatments better including taking all my medicines!”
